The Museum is located within a green area 300 metres from the A12 motorway exit, on land belonging to the "Nostra Signora Regina della Pace" church, commonly known as the “Olive grove Church” for its many trees.

The Ethnological Museum collects numerous artefacts that trace the heritage of the Apuan people.
The viewing itinerary leads visitors to various sectors that recreate the day-to-day life of rural folk: their basic activities – tending the fields, gathering the hay, rearing livestock, harvesting grapes and chestnuts and so on; the types of employment available in the early 20th century – shoemaker, harness maker, quarryman, blacksmith, woodchopper, washerwoman, cloth-maker etc., as well as the school and typography.
The Museum was created on March 14th 1980 through a notary deed ordered by father Luigi Bonacoscia and a group of friends. At its formation, it brought together two collections: the “Masnata” – around 300 artefacts – and that of the newly founded Museum – around 100 items. During the following years the Museum’s collection has grown in variety and number, reaching about 5000 items mainly recovered from Massa, Carrara, Lunigiana, Garfagnana and Versilia.

Il Museo organizza nell’arco dell’anno diverse attività come: conferenze, mostre e pubblica annualmente una rivista “Le Apuane” di storia e tradizioni locali. Inoltre organizza attività didattiche indirizzate alla conoscenza della “cultura materiale”, le quali possono essere impostate a secondo di quelle che sono le esigenze della committenza.
